The authentic and genuine traditional Swahili Music, that has its origin in Zanzibar, Mombasa and coastal area of Tanzania & Kenya. The lyrics (Mashairi) in Taarab music are not just ordinary lyrics they're poems or more precisely it's poetry containing significant and instructively information. In fact all Taarab songs follow the formal rules of traditional Swahili poetry, with intricate rhyming schemes. Furthermore Taarab is one of Swahili people ways of delivering messages to specific individual or individuals with very special metaphor or language codes that most likely and mostly only Swahili people can interpret, so even if you understand Swahili that doesn't mean you comprehend the messages behind, contents and significance of Taarab lyrics.

CDM KIRATU is a music legend. He was born in 1951 in Limuru, Kiambu County, Kenya of peasant parents Njeri & Kiratu. Once a street / parking boy he showed his special potential in music while at an approved school (correction center) and later in High School. He wrote and recorded his first composition MUGATHE KENYATTA while in the then Form Six class in 1972. A little different from other contemporary local artistes, CDM composes music in his native language Gikuyu, in English and Swahili languages. A multitalented individual he has served as Director of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya {MCSK} [2007-2014] and as chairman of the Music Composers Association {MCA} where he founded the Singer of the Year Awards [SOYA] Program. This was after retiring from KRA where he headed the Anti-Counterfeit |Anti-Piracy Unit up to 2007. CDM fondly named MZEE WA KAZI in the music circle still performs his NGOGOYO evergreen songs Long live lovers of music!!!
