There are concerns about the decline in the number of kendo practitioners. In order to increase the number of kendo practitioners, it is essential to make the sport appealing so that children will think it is "cool!" Because there is a negative image of kendo, such as it being strict, dirty, and smelly, we need to convey its coolness and appeal to surpass these. In major sports, there are star athletes who are well-known by everyone, but there are almost no such figures in kendo. Even among those with kendo experience, very few have the opportunity to watch a match as an adult. For this reason, I believe that those involved in kendo should further their efforts to raise awareness and convey the appeal of kendo. We are working to increase opportunities to watch matches, and to help children think, "That's cool, I want to try it!" We are also hopeful about the efforts of Kajitani, a graduate of Kyushu Gakuin University, as a YouTuber to promote kendo, and the activities of celebrities Masayuki Watanabe and Takuya Kimura. ■Any comments that are abusive, such as criticism of players, officials, or referees, will be deleted and the user will be blocked. The athletes have a tough time, but the parents, managers, coaches, and managers who support the students on sports teams work even harder than you can imagine.
