De Katwijkse Mannenzangavond is een grote belevenis. Zowel in april als in november vult de kerkruimte zich in korte tijd. Binnen slechts tien minuten na het openen van de kerkdeuren zit de Nieuwe Kerk compleet gevuld met zo'n 1700 mannen uit nagenoeg alle provincies van ons land en ver daarbuiten. Wat in 1994 is begonnen als een lang gekoesterde wens van de hoofd-organist van de Nieuwe Kerk, Jaap van Rijn, is in enkele jaren uitgegroeid tot een begrip en een landelijk bekend 'evenement'. Eerst was de dirigent Martien van der Knijff die het stokje na enkele jaren heeft overgedragen aan Bert Noteboom. Jaap van Rijn heeft na jaren begeleid te hebben overgedragen aan Marco den Toom. De massaliteit van het stevige stemgeluid van zo'n enorme verzameling mannenstemmen maken dat het keer op keer een indrukwekkende belevenis is.
