Outside Magazine cited him as "one of the world’s most respected chroniclers of Everest" by Outside Magazine. Some of his climbing accomplishments include summiting Mount Everest in 2011, Mount Manaslu in 2013, and K2 in 2014 at the age of 58, becomming the 18th and oldest American at the time to summit the second-highest peak in the world.
