Dr Angela Puca is an academic and a university lecturer who has taught at several universities worldwide and has been based at Leeds Trinity University since 2016. She holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in philosophy. In 2021, The University of Leeds awarded her a PhD in Religious Studies on Italian Witchcraft and Shamanism, published by Brill. Her research focuses on magic, witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, shamanism, and related currents. Author of several peer-reviewed publications and co-editor of ‘Pagan Religions in five Minutes’ for Equinox, she hopes to bridge the gap between academia and the communities of magic practitioners by delivering related scholarly content on her YouTube Channel and other social media platforms, named Angela's Symposium. A series of videos exploring the world's darker side. I will cover true crime, grim histories and mysteries of the world. I try to make videos about subjects that haven't already been covered on YouTube. If they have been covered before, I try to improve on past productions. I spend hours on my videos; that's researching, writing the scripts and finally editing. Although I would like to upload one per month, it's not always possible due to the length of time it takes to make a worthwhile video. As well as the internet, I use other avenues for research such as libraries, old newspapers and speaking to people. I had always thought that many illustrators from the past got nothing like the attention they deserved so I decided to make some videos about a few of these almost forgotten talents. The unsung heroes series was originally intended to be about illustrators from what's known as the golden age of illustration. But I soon realised that meant ignoring many early 20th century illustrators who strictly speaking didn't fit that description. So I compromised and ended up with parameters of those born between 1850 and 1910. There are also videos about individual illustrators who are personal favourites of mine, mostly but not exclusively from the early 20th century. And there are a range of others on various aspects of illustration, such as children's books, advertising, art deco or a certain historical period. If it's illustration then it has my interest. And I very much hope it has yours, too.
