Diné artist Def-i continues to carve out an original niche from introspective and poetic Hip Hop. Hailing from Albuquerque, NM and emerging from the underground indie rap circuit, Def-i’s eclectic repertoire has provided him with much success and opportunity; MC, Producer, Artist-Educator – Def-i has been featured on Sway in the Morning, NPR, BBC, Democracy Now!, RT plus a plethora of worldwide outlets. His performance styles range wide from Hip Hop and spoken word to contemporary Indigenous acoustic. Rounding out this diverse musical powerhouse, Def-i is an experienced youth workshop provider, active community member and currently serves as a U.S. Hip Hop Cultural Ambassador. For the past decade he has worked with educational entities from all levels, teaching creative writing, song recording, the art of beat making and the fundamentals of Hip Hop culture. What started as an intimate renegade gathering in the Mojave Desert has since blossomed into a movement that celebrates love, life, music, and community. With Desert Hearts Festival, City Hearts Festival, and countless events popping up around the world, it's easy to see why Desert Hearts was dubbed by Thump Magazine as "The West Coast's Fastest Growing Party Squad" in it's early years. The idea is to spread love through music towards a better way of life. The belief is in a society where acceptance, creativity, and passions flourish.
